Educators trained for career counselling at govt schools

Dr. S. Bharati Dasan, the Secretary of School Education in Chhattisgarh, highlighted the vital role of teachers in helping students explore their interests and make well-informed decisions about their careers. This was discussed at a workshop jointly organized by UNICEF and Samagra Shiksha, which aimed to equip teachers with the necessary tools and knowledge. Dasan emphasized the importance of guiding students towards a successful future.

The program, which will be implemented at the state level in districts and schools, aims to identify and train one career counselor from each high school and higher secondary school. The main objective of this initiative is to enable students in government schools to make informed choices about their career paths, thus ensuring a promising future for them. A government press release stated that the recently concluded workshop focused on reviewing and discussing 500 career cards.

During the workshop, 66 high school and higher secondary teachers from the state were trained as master trainers.

Addressing these educators, Dr. Bharti Dasan highlighted that students often choose careers based on their immediate surroundings, such as aspiring to become doctors, teachers, or police officers. He urged teachers to explore a wide range of career options with their students and play a crucial role in identifying their interests. The School Education Secretary emphasized the importance of guiding students in making career choices after completing their 10th grade and selecting appropriate subjects after 12th grade.

He emphasized the need for teachers to actively engage with parents and facilitate open discussions about their children’s interests and future career paths. By fostering a collaborative approach, teachers can effectively support students in making informed decisions about their careers.
